The sound of silence in Boston Garden was indeed spectacular.

Wings fans are familiar with the feeling having been through similar heartbreaks in '95 and especially again in '96.

Wow. I've been in grocery stores that were louder than that.

At least the 96 Wings made it to the WCF.

Wow. The President's Trophy and record-winning Bruins and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Avs were both eliminated after the first round. Not to mention, 2020 and 2021 SC champions and last year's runner-up Tampa Bay Lightning lost too. At least the Leafs move on to a 2nd round for the first time in decades, and the Seattle Kraken go to the 2nd round in just their second season. This is going to be an interesting remaining playoffs.

The look on Bertuzzi's face last night was one of "Man, I should have stayed in Detroit, so I could have started my off-season vacationing a couple weeks earlier!"

The drought continues for Canada 30 years after Lord Stanley's Cup last championship. Death taxes and Canada can't win The Stanley Cup.

The northernmost team remaining in the NHL playoffs is Las Vegas.

This is from the Athletic:
2. Ken Holland’s seat has to be searingly hot — I get that he’s a Hall of Famer with a fistful of Cup rings, and he didn’t just forget everything he knows about building winning teams. But with all that said, it’s starting to feel all but impossible to imagine Holland having a future in Edmonton unless this season turns around. And not in a “they squeaked into the playoffs after all” sort of way, but in a legitimate Cup run.
Yeah, let's pretend Holland wasn't TERRIBLE once the salary cap was instituted...

Wasn't Devellano the architect behind the runs in the 90s? Holland took the reigns in '98; the team was already shit hot. I may have my dates off so correct me if needed. But I could swear Holland didn't take over until AFTER the first cup.

Holland took the reins in July of 1997 after starting as a scout with the team in Western Canada in 1990, then he was director of scouting and from 1994-1997 he was assistant GM. So he took over RIGHT AFTER they won the first one.
