And then there's the AL East where the 21-17 Yankees are alone in last place and 8.5 games back.
Even though it's way too early to discuss the P-word, I'm willing to bet that all the AL wild card teams will come from the AL East this year. The Tigers' path to the playoffs, if it happens, will have to be by winning the Central. (We'll see if this prediction ages well.)

Sparky Anderson said you will know what kind of team you have after forty games. The upcoming home stand against the Mariners and surprising Pirates should be very telling.

I will say the Tigers have been playing some good team baseball of late; e.g., advancing runners consistently and leading baseball in defensive runs saved. Pitching has been surprisingly good as well.

And as much as I hate to admit it, the pitch clock has been a complete success so far. Today's game was barely over two hours!

And, year over year, ratings are up nicely for TV and attendance is up 5% as well. These changes MIGHT be helping a bit more than I thought they would.

This is the best rule change in a LONG time! I don't spend so much on beer at / listening to / watching games now! :rollin

Has it been successful enough to get rid of that extra inning runner, which was designed to shorten games? I hope so, for the sake of every relief pitcher in baseball.

Mariners 9, Tigers 2.

Boyd gave up 6 runs in two innings.

Tonight is the first Friday fireworks night this season.

Marniners 5, Tigers 0. I guess the Tigers never showed up.

But they showed up on Mother's Day...good ol' Mom. :D Another good come-from-behind effort...and Maton taking one for the team right off the shin for the go-ahead..

After forty games our boys are hangin' around .500. Who woulda' thunk it earlier with that godawful start? Not me, that's for sure. Hinch's benching of Baez in that one game may prove to be the defining moment for the entire season!

Yeah, I know, it's still early and there's the AL East to contend with...but we are a different team from when we faced the TB Rays earlier.

Damn, a mere two games behind the worst-division-in-baseball lead! :smokin

Earlier I lauded Torkelson's play at 1B, but twice I've seen him flub a foul pop-up running away from the infield. He's gotta learn to get behind those tough pop-ups.

They should thank Chicago for that nice gift today.

The wheels are coming off...

I think June will be an ugly month for the Tigers.

Yep, losing their best pitcher and best hitter the same day is generally not a good thing. They'll be fighting the Royals for the cellar in September.

The last two games were clunkers. Chicago sucks and they swept the Tigers. Welcome back to third place.
