Purdue getting the #1 seed over Marquette is a bit shocking to me as Marquette had the far tougher schedule and went 4-0 against the last (at the time) Top 25 ranked teams. Outside of Gonzaga and Duke early in the season, who has Purdue beat? They barely beat Ohio State (who subsequently crumbled) and has lost 4 of their last 11 including losses to Northwestern, Maryland, and twice to Indiana. I'm struggling to see how Purdue is anything better than a 3 or 4 seed.
I stand vindicated :blink

And I'm very happy right now since my 3 bracket entries have Marquette, Tennessee, and Memphis winning it all. Now I don't have to worry about Purdue.

Purdue. Always. Chokes.

But I hope you're right about the Spartans.

Memphis just got screwed by the refs BIG TIME. Instead of a time out, the refs call a tie-up.

Despite one of my worst first round brackets ever (going only 20-12 assuming Indiana wins), the scenario generator says I'm still alive for 1st place if either Tennessee or Marquette wins the whole thing, IF also Texas makes the final.

GL, but I think Tennessee gets bombed tomorrow. Outside of Matt Painter, Rick Barnes gags more NCAA games than anyone, and that's with teams he's favored with.

I'd love you to throw this back in my face tomorrow for being wrong though.

FDU was 20-15 on the season headed into yesterday's contest, plays in the worst Division I conference in the country (they were 10-6 against conference opponents), and was a "First Four" team to boot.

Their defeat of Purdue was definitely a bigger upset than UMBC's defeat of Virginia in 2018, in my eyes, even though UMBC dominated Virginia. UMBC was ranked 166 on KenPom that year. FDU was ranked 298 (!!!) headed into yesterday's contest, which means one man's statistical algorithm suggested 297 other teams in the country are better than FDU.

Ken Pomeroy had FDU ranked lower than Louisville, who finished 4-28 this season! :lol

100%. I've been predicting since midway through the regular season that despite all the usual hype, Purdue would lose in the second round of the NCAA tournament. I guess I gave them a bit too much credit.

Purdue likes to dominate those snowy Tuesday night games in January and do well in the Big Ten regular season - then consistently shits the bed in March. They've done this for years.

If I were a Purdue fan, I'd probably be calling for Painter's firing.

Just for clarification the loss to Saint Pete was in the sweet 16 after St Pete beat a 2 and a 7.

Duke never recovered from Tennessee's run at the end of the first half.

And with Purdue out of the way, I'm liking my chances of being alive going into the Elite 8. Need a TX win though.
