Re: Willis Reed dies
It can be postulated that our beloved Detroit Pistons made Willis Reed what he would become. The Knicks at one time had Reed playing power forward next to Walt Bellamy at center; it wasn't working well. The Pistons, in their infinite wisdom and needing a big man to play center, traded local hero Dave DeBusschere for Bellamy, thus allowing Reed to move to his natural center position leading to a chain of winning seasons and a couple championships.
Meanwhile, Bellamy played some of the most uninspiring basketball for a most uninspiring Pistons team. You're welcome, New York.
FWIW, guard Howie Komives who also came to Detroit in that trade became a personal favorite.
RIP Willis Reed
