JV football

Post by Circle Seven » Sun Nov 06, 2022 5:29 am

Not sure if this question should be posed here or Chatterbox. I'm basically functionally illiterate when it comes to sports. But am wondering something.

The wife's got nieces and a nephew involved in what's called JV football. The girls cheer. The nephew is a sixth grader. There's in the playoffs. So today was the semi-playoff for next week's championship game. The Peanut Bowl.

The score got up to 34-0 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The coach kept sending in the same kids and kept the same kids sidelined until the end of the game.

I've seen him do this all season. Even if it's a high scoring shut out, the bench warmers don't play any more often. Like I said, I don't know much about football, and there is the championship this Saturday. Is there any rhyme or reason to not let the backup play the fourth quarter when there is no chance of losing?

Thanks.

I can think of no reason not to play the other kids.
If I was a parent I would ask the coach to explain his rationale.
These are young kids. It's not high school, college or the NFL.

Thanks. The only rationale I thought was maybe he's fine tuning plays for this Saturday, or something like that. Like I said, I don't really know what's going on out there. Other people around me in the stands see penalties before a flag is even thrown.

At the one game they lost (which may of been by you. Huron High School in A2) the parents were saying the coach was running the same plays over and over. I couldn't tell.

Now I'm confused. You said he is in 6th grade. I assume he is in middle school.
I know in Ann Arbor there is no middle school football.

Looks like it's a privately run league that rents out local fields.

It's elementary and junior high playing at their district's high school on Saturdays. Three different teams. Freshmen, JV and Varsity.
I think (and I'm guessing) 2nd through 7th graders. Team they play on depends on weight.

Unless they take into account point differentials as to who makes the playoffs, this type of behavior makes no sense to me either.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Does Michigan, or Michigan State, even have a JV team?
