They basically control their own destiny now.
It's not quite that simple. Even if the Lions win out, those other teams vying for a spot need to do some losing, but you're right, the odds certainly improve greatly.
One more Seattle loss puts Detroit in control (and Seattle travels to KC next week), as does one more loss from the loser of the Giants/Commanders game tomorrow. That means their magic number would be any 1 of those 6 games going their way. Detroit also controls if the winner of the WAS-GIA game then goes on to lose 2 out of 3.

538's NFL scenario generator says the odds of Detroit getting the help they need are at 98%.

PLUS, if Seattle does indeed lose to KC next week (KC is a 10-point favorite), Detroit's odds of making it improve to 75% even if they lose another game.

It's that 2% that worries me. :razz

If the Viqueens stink up the joint the rest of the season as bad as they are in the first half at home against the 4-8-1 Colts, the Lions may indeed tie for the division. :? :smokin

(Edit)
The Vi-KINGS have just made the largest comeback in NFL history! :eek :lol

Amazing. They were down 33 to zip at halftime!

Vikings win via walk-off FG at the end of OT. Incredible.

Frank Reich's comeback is still more impressive given the stakes. How interesting that it was broken against a team he recently coached!

This wouldn't be a feeble attempt at diminishing today's accomplishment engineered by proud MSU Spartan alumnus Kirk Cousins, would it? :razz

Surprisingly no. Cousins has done well for himself in his career - he seems like a good guy. The only issue I have with him is the religious aspect.

Very magnanimous of you, Matt. :hat What's interesting is he was drafted by the 'Skins to back up fellow rookie RGIII and to see their respective divergent career paths.

Good thing the jets missed that - there is NO WAY they got that timeout.

Was shaping up to be an especially excruciating SOL loss. Had ALL the classic hallmarks. Hail Mary pass completion on the second to last play of regulation.
Controversial officiating. Long range FG attempt to send the game to OT. For once, the opposing team's long range FG attempt sailed wide. THANK GOD.

Let's not forget, either, the Lions passed on the opportunity for a chip shot FG midway through the 1st quarter. Had the Lions failed to win in OT, many of us would've been second guessing that decision, myself included.

Uh, they scored a punt return TD after a three and out. A FG there takes 4 points off the board.

It's impossible to say how that subsequent Lions drive would've turned out had they opted to kick the FG on their first drive of the game. Did it ultimately work out well for Detroit? Certainly did. Definitely not the worst decision Campbell ever made. Far from it. Did the fact the Jets started their drive super deep in their own territory (which resulted in a 3 and out)help the Lions on the ensuing punt return? Yup.

Saleh's clock management on the Jets' final possession was atrocious. He should be raked over the coals.

I can't bee-LEEVE Campbell opted for the long FG attempt instead of punting when he said a similar decision waaay back in the first Vikings game would eat at him for the rest of his life..
