This completely guts rivalries on the west coast and Midwest. Every game is a bowl game now. What disgusting greed. Why even watch bowl games in December and January? They don’t mean shit now.
As a kid, New Year’s Day was wall-to-wall football viewing. Citrus Bowl, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, etc. Watching all those games was a futile attempt by me to hold off the blues as Christmas Vacation was almost over and it was time to return to school.
I only rarely watch Bowl games now. They don’t mean anything to me at all. The Rose Bowl is just a game that features a really nice sunset. January 1 is much more likely to be filled with the NHL Winter Classic viewing.

If they pick 4 more of the PAC-12, I see Cal, Stanford (the SF Bay Area market), Oregon, and Washington.
The Arizona's, Utah, and Colorado fit with the Big-12. The Buffs were a Big 12 school for years.
Oregon State and Wash St to the MWC.
ND will protect their TV rights.
I feel like Arizona could still be in play. That Phoenix TV market might be too tempting to pass up.

To be accurate Arizona State is in the Phoenix market (Tempe) and Arizona is down in Tucson

What if the BIG 10 championship game was USC vs. UCLA?

Damn, that's something I never considered!
They'd most likely be in the same division, but still....

I could see them moving the game around a bit more. The Big 10 did a couple of their basketball championship games in NY and DC to appease Rutgers and Maryland. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did a football championship on the west coast at some point. But you know Indy will remain in regular rotation.

I think maybe we should be changing our perspective of college football (sports?) being a regional endeavor. Annual rivalries we've all become used to are slowly evaporating in favor of national television revenue.
