1977 or 1978 Rose Bowl

Post by matt1 » Thu Jun 10, 2021 11:22 pm

Back either on January 1, 1977 or January 2, 1978, the late NBC announcer Curt Gowdy did a halftime report BUT Curt mention a village called Sanford, Michigan BUT I am not sure what Curt was talking about. (I was 11 & 1/2 years old on January 1, 1977). Curt I think also mention a place called Greensburg, Pennsylvania (where my late aunts, uncle & relatives used to live). The 1977 halftime performance was cut on YouTube (Michigan & USC marching bands) as well as the report that Curt was talking about during halftime (USC beat Michigan 14 - 6). I am not sure about the January 2, 1978 game between Michigan Wolverines & the Washington Huskies which the Huskies won 27 - 20 (Quarterbacks Wolverines Rick Leach against Huskies Warren Moon & a man by the name of Michael Jackson who intercepted a pass from Leach to seal the game). Not sure if the halftime performance was cut off though on YouTube from January 2, 1978. NOT sure if Gowdy mentioned Sanford, MI in that report though. Does anyone know about this??? :?

Well I guess they took the halftime performances out of the 1978 Rose Bowl. I did see the part on YouTube when the Michigan Marching Band paid a tribute to "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" movie at the Rose Bowl.

I spotted Rick Leach's car in a condominium parking lot about a couple of months ago. It was painted an intense University Blue with a Maize Block M on the side. When I told people about it, they didn't believe me, even though the address was online. I suspect he was doing a baseball camp in the area. I would be really surprised if Bo Schembechler ever sent him to Dr. Anderson. If he did, Anderson probably didn't pull anything or that would have been the end of him, one way or another. I haven't seen him interviewed about it.
