According to ESPN, Matthew Boyd had the highest batting average on the Tigers this year (.333) and Harold Castro had the lowest ERA on the team (0.00).

Could we have another Shohei Ohtani on this team? :D :lol

Boyd is out for most of '22 with flexor tendon surgery, so we can count him out. "Hittin' Harold" Castro, however, can be a '22 rotation candidate. :smokin :P :lol

Then how about getting Ohtani?

Good signing here. Lotta talk about Carlos Correa headed to Detroit too. We could possibly contend in 2022.

With Boyd likely out for most of next season, it was a great signing. We're gonna be loaded with starting pitchers when you hear talk of them wanting to sign another veteran SP such as Wily Peralta. Is a six man rotation in the works?

...with a player opt-out after two years and limited no-trade clause. It seems reasonable. What I like is that Baez can play around the infield and can move to 2B should Kreidler ultimately be the real deal. What I don't like is that Baez has had a relatively lousy OBP and strikes out too much. I absolutely hate so-called non-productive outs! It will be interesting to see if Hinch and the coaches can preserve the plate discipline Baez showed toward the end of last season and where he'll be placed in the batting order.

For Sabermetrics wonks, scroll to the bottom of this page and see who is most similar to Baez as a hitter playing at similar positions at his age. You'll see the likes of Jonathan Schoop, Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Marcus Semien, Eugenio Saurez, et al.

Not a bad deal given the prices being paid for shortstop free agents this off-season.

I wouldn't call it a great deal, either.

It *is* a logical deal.

Am hopeful Baez's strike out ratio will decrease in 2022.
