2020 Baseball Season Scrapped?

Post by Deleted User 4520 » Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:58 am

I believe baseball isn't gonna happen this year. Seems no agreements are in sight. Even if an agreement is reached I feel it is pointless having such a shortened season. Any post season game wins would feel hollow in my opinion because the full season wasn't played.

I believe that there will be an MLB season it will be an 82 game season just my opinion. Both sides keep talking the players have offered 89 game season I believe a middle ground will be had.

My optimistic situation:

- 82 games (10 games against each division opponent [40 games] + 4 games against each league opponent [40 games] + 2 interleague games [2 games])
- Limited fans where allowed (5k-10k max)
- 12 team postseason
- Toronto Blue Jays play at their spring training ballpark

The players are such morons. I guess they'd prefer zero salary to prorated salary or even 1.2x prorated salary.

These players apparently don't realize just how out-of-touch they come across as to the rest of society. Unemployment rates across other industries are through the roof with tens of millions of people unemployed and tens of millions more underemployed, and the players won't budge off of their offer for 89 games at 100% prorated pay? 72 games at 80% pay sounds PERFECTLY fair to me.

Completely agree! The commissioner extended an extremely generous offer to the players. The players and their agents are a bunch of gigantic assholes.

Thanks to the states which opened too early and didn't advocate for safe habits, the new spike will be a more likely reason the season isn't going to happen.

The commish will do the nuke and it will be 48 to 50 games starting in Aug when NHL & NBA restart the season and NFL training camps open up as well. MLB will have a lockout after the 2021 season.

At this point in the game I could care less if my beloved baseball starts up this season. In my mind a 50 game season isn't a season and is pointless to me. I think next year there will be repercussions. In what form they will take is anyone's guess. I think a lot of fans will find they have a lot more time to do other things in the absence of baseball. Sometimes it's tough staying in the house for 3 hours watching a game on TV on a beautiful sunny day.

So much for this season, or any season, meaning much of anything. Looks like they're quickly moving towards a 16-team playoff for this year and next year.

No deal, says MLB players union after new offer

Not surprising at all. Just resume baseball next year already. This is like democrats vs republicans going at it.

The 16 team playoff is a truly horrible idea.

Why? I’m bored by 6 teams or whatever it is. It also means my team more often than not isn’t getting in. The current system for a lot of people is a complete waste of time and an utter joke.

I follow this closely as two station in my company carry MLB and have full sponsor loads. I don't think we will have baseball this year for 2 reasons. First if the commish does pull the trigger the players union will file a grievance and that will have to go to arbitration and that will hold up things even longer. 2nd, with the players and staffers that have tested positive closing down spring training facilities and having to move everyone to their home parks that adds 2 weeks at least to the start of spring training. At this point they need to cancel the season and just start work on their new agreement. As for putting the blame on states opening early, if players and staffers had practiced social distancing and worn masks like they were supposed to that would not be an issue
