Know why the Tigers played so poorly in 2006 and 2012 in the World Series? It's because Leyland did a terrible job preparing the team mentally and did a terrible job of managing his batting lineup.
The time off between the pennant and World Series is nothing more than a sad excuse.
Also, I loved all the dopey articles Lynn Henning used to write about how the Tigers would've won it all in 2013 had they won game two at Fenway. Give me a break. Since when is a 1-1 split on the road in the first two games of a playoff series an insurmountable thing? The fact of the matter is the Tigers bats were pretty lifeless the rest of the 2013 ALCS, baserunners were often left stranded thanks to Prince Fielder's ineptitude, and Leyland refused to make changes. Red Sox probably still would've clinched that pennant even if their game 2 comeback never occurred.
