Do you think the Big 10's timing of its Harbaugh suspension was prompted by nothing more than fear that he's going to be coaching somewhere else next year and that if they waited until the off-season that he would basically walk off scot-free?
I do not believe so. I think it's a function of the conference, and its commissioner especially, succumbing to mob pressure.

Under the scenario you laid out, the conference (barring violation of tort law) would still have had the ability to punish the school by suspending his successor.
I agree mob pressure most likely played a part in the punishment. But perhaps the pressure indicates that Michigan is well known across the Big Ten for bending/breaking rules and schools are sick of it. Seems like if this was a common occurrence, other schools/coaches would be tip toeing themselves and not forcefully demanding something be done. I think other schools are tired of another infraction that will result in a slap on the wrist suspension at the beginning of the season against cupcake opponents.

I have no dog in this race as I'm neither a University of Michigan fan nor hater. My view as someone who is relatively disinterested in the success of U of M football (or MSU for that matter) is that nobody comes out of this looking particularly good. While I do think that suspending Harbaugh for the remainder of the regular season was a bit pre-mature under the circumstances, and also agree that other Big 10 Universities would love nothing more than to see Michigan taken down a notch, the idea that Michigan is somehow a squeaky clean victim of, I'll use a politics analogy here - a "deep state" conspiracy - is ridiculous. Michigan has an almost cult-like following - of which Matt's membership is kinda ironic given how he rails against the "Trump cult." The fact that Matt can't see the parallels between Michigan's situation and Trump's situation is amusing to me.
So Trump is in jail or he's not allowed to run for president? I must have missed that news!

Oh, speaking of politics, when you're a commissioner of a money making machine, PROBABLY NOT a great idea to put yourself in the crosshairs of Congress: https://twitter.com/RepDebDingell/statu ... wqz6Q&s=19

Michigan has receipts. Warde all but publicly announced that with:
“All of the Head Coaches in the Big Ten (some who have been accused of actively participating in the trading of signals of opponents) and my Big Ten AD colleagues can rejoice today that someone was ‘held accountable,’ but they should be worried about the new standard of judgment (without complete investigation) that has been unleashed in this conference.”

Did Warde (and/or the Board of Regents) vote in favor of approving the Big Ten bylaws as currently written?

Literally comparing Jim Harbaugh to Donald Trump.

Last I saw, Harbaugh didn't have an oleaginous gunt slicking up his beltline. Is Harbaugh's wife so disgusted with him that she can't share the same room with him?

Imagine being the internet bodyguard for a guy whose wife is so disgusted with him that she has to sleep in different rooms of a house, or even different houses.

You really have to wonder if Jim Harbaugh is being persecuted because of his anti abortion views, which also explains some of your Trump comparisons and disproportionate outrage.

The Trump comparison is really with the cult following of the Michigan fan base. Not Harbaugh himself. He's a bit player in the grand scheme of the programs history and how it got to the point of being absurd bending over backwards to defend the place as perfect.

You beat me to it. I was talking about Michigan's hardcore fans and Trump's hardcore base, not the 2 men themselves. The 2 groups exhibit a lot of similar behaviors.

💯 The way Trumpers ignore the facts and still think the election was stolen is akin to the delusions of many Michigan fans. Just go on the Magoo blog those nuts have and read some of their crazy submissions. They are Q-anon like psychotic. And instead of Trump tower, they have their statue to the beloved rape enabler.

I remember when U of M asked the Big Ten to hold off on any judgement for the MSU players involved in the tunnel incident until a full and complete investigation had occurred. And when they were suspended immediately afterwards, U of M fans and administration alike expressed concern that they were suspended prior to that full investigation.

Agreed.

Get caught cheating? Deflect. Claim that there is a conspiracy to take them down. Turn yourselves into martyrs and victims.

Lose an electio...errrr game? Blame referees, crowned fields, clock operators, weather.

Nope. The haters are Trump. Michigan has legitimately won 35 games and counting over the last seasons, like Biden legitimately won the 2020 election. People trying to diminish that are the stop the steal Trump supporters. It's pretty crystal clear.
