Stealing signs isn't cheating.
Who said it was? Something about glass houses...

It’s legal to steal signs as long as you’re not sending people to other games, and filming their sideline. This is Michigan trying to deflect and control the narrative.

From the article:

"The former Big Ten program employee told AP he had no knowledge that any of the material he received was gathered in violation of the rules. The documents he provided to Michigan were shared along with other material with the Big Ten on Friday, according to a person familiar with the situation speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to share the details."

Michigan should have just changed up their signs. Problem solved, right?

Therein lies the irony - why does Harbaugh feel the need to risk blowing all his team's successes by having Stalions illegally scout other teams?

Harbaugh didn't - the NCAA has said as much.

Question:
Am I missing something about sports?
Yes, there are rules in place in sports. When rules are broken, penalties can be assessed based on the infraction.

I believe your local library should have a collection of "Sports for Dummies" books if you are interested in learning more.
Are you missing the point of athletic ability when the lawyers get involved?

Stealing signs is only bad if Michigan does it.

I'm a big fan of Hockey, Rugby and Curling. Football is just a pack of complaining Madonnas. Hockey and rugby players are real men. Curling has no officiating, the players just work it out.

Most teams drink with each other before and after matches.
