The Military-Commercial complex

Post by SolarMax » Fri Jun 05, 2020 10:44 am

On one of those obscure cable channels I'd never looked at before, I saw a spot for "The Income Tax Admiral." So now, we've got The Admiral for tax help, The General for Auto insurance, and The Colonel for chicken. The Admiral is grade D crap animation, his "uniform" a cross between Uncle Sam and an officer in some unknown navy. Speaking of The General, that animated character's latest spot has Snoop Dogg driving the General around in his low rider. Does that make Snoop one of the "Joint Chiefs??"
What other military ranks are or could be connected to ads for other products or services?
No, "Sargent Appliance" doesn't count.

Was the Tidy Bowl Man in some kind of Navy or Coast Guard?

Captain Crunch, (his real name is Horatio Nelson Crunch. It was Jeopardy Question.)

How could I forget Captain Crunch!

Commodore Computer could have filled a slot in the ranks.

Admiral Gas, (it's a regional chain. There's one in Lake Orion.)

Was the Old Spice Sailor part of some Merchant Marine Organization?

There was of course the old Admiral brand of radios and TVs.

"Old Spice means quality, said the Captain to the Bo'sun" only reference to rank in the old jingle. Sailing ships have always been their visual theme, with no specific military or commercial affiliations.

The Crackerjack Sailor: He could have been a member of a navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine Organization, (I don't know a lot about this character other than he's been around a very long time.)

How about: General Motors, General Electric, General Mills, General Dynamics, Admiral Refrigerator, Private Parts.

There was also a Major Minor in a cartoon series many years ago.
