The first Lennon McCartney song heard in the US was done by Del Shannon

Post by n8fnr » Sat Jul 15, 2023 4:55 pm

The Beatles were Del Shannon's support act in England during his tour in 1963 and Del Shannon was the first American artist to cover a Lennon/McCartney song that same year with "From Me To You". It entered the Billboard Hot 100 on 29 June, becoming the first Lennon–McCartney composition to make the American charts. Del's version was a bigger hit than The Beatles.

Prince William is related to legendary Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood, it was revealed yesterday.

Wills shares the same family tree as rock royalty Mick, aged 66, through an ancestor of his late mum Princess Diana.

The pair are sixth cousins three times removed.

They are connected by Diana’s ninth great-granddad Edward Lascelles who was also Mick’s sixth great grandfather. Lascelles was born in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, around 1702 and died aged 45.

The Labatt beer sold in the US is actually brewed by Labatt's rival, Molson.

When Van Halen was signed to Warner Bros. in 1977, there were boardroom discussions about finding someone to replace David Lee Roth as vocalist. The main name thrown around?

Sammy Hagar.

My mom's cousin (I guess that would be my first cousin once removed) attended Madonna's 5th birthday party. Does that count?

Both Jewel and Billy Strings used to busk on Front Street in Traverse City. They both had standing gigs at local coffee houses.

Billy Strings is amazing! I remember him busking in T.C.

FWIW, Jewel recently appeared on the PBS series Firing Line hosted by Margaret Hoover.
