I'm in mourning right now. Gordon was a legend who made so many great songs and told so many great stories. Got to see him at Massey Hall 2 years ago. He put on such a great show. R.I.P. Gordon. Thanks for the great music.

On the short lived, (but funny) WB animated show Mission Hill, Gordon Lightfoot was the hero of the nerdy Kevin French. There is scene where he’s driving a Ferrari while listening to Sundown. It was weird but humorous.

Here's a couple of Detroit singles charts from early 1971 that include "If You Could Read My Mind".

Lot of great songs on these lists, but I'm scratching my head about the Number One song on each list ("One Bad Apple"). Take a listen to "Sweet Mary"—a cool song that I hadn't heard in decades.

Perhaps one of the finest compilations/greatest hits albums ever is the original Gord's Gold, brilliant re-recordings of the most memorable of Lightfoot's early prime.

I own both Gord's Gold and Gord's Gold Vol. 2, as well as Gordon's other albums.

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum paid tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. I went there in 2013. In the gift shop you can buy a copy of his greatest hits, (I’m not sure it was Gord’s Gold volume 1.). Has anyone out there been there?

Why would you scratch your head over One Bad Apple at #1? That damned song was #1 everywhere in early 1971. If I had a dollar for every time I played that song on the radio, I'd probably have thousands of dollars. Sweet Mary was the late Rick Becketts favorite song when I was working with him at WZZM in '71. Now back to Gordon Lightfoot.

"One Bad Apple" spent 5 weeks at # 1 on Billboard. Thought it was the Almonds. (laughs) "Sweet Mary" went to # 7 BUT the album version was different than the MONO 45 single!! Also there was "Sundown, Sundown" by Nancy Sinatra & the late great Lee Hazlewood from 1968 Nancy & Lee album & "Slowdown Sundown" by Steve Winwood (from 1981 album "Arc Of A Diver").

I guess I was comparing it to other songs on the list that have endured much better than "One Bad Apple." Thinking back a little more, what you say makes sense. I'm almost the same age as Donny Osmond, so that song does live in my memory cells. That song is an amazing imitation of the Jackson Five.
