Remakes you like better then original

A lot of times remakes can be awful but I do think some songs are maybe better the 2nd time around.

This one is my favorite, This just cranked it up a notch as I feel the T-Rex version seemed to be lacking something.

Remake of The Shocking Blue song. This kicked it up a notch.

I'm not sure I'll go to bat saying this one is BETTER, but it's pretty close. A really different take on the song yet using all the original lyrics:

I like "Zombie" by Bad Wolves way better than the original by the Cranberries. A harder edge and the guitar solo is more powerful. It is sad that Delores died on the day she was supposed to collaborate with them on the cover... Bad Wolves is donating all the profits from the sale of the song to her children, which is a great show of support!

I think any of UB40's reggae covers are great. "Red Red Wine", "Can't Help Falling in Love", and the collaboration with Chrissie Hynde on "I Got You Babe". Similiar reggae band Big Mountain did a great cover of "Baby I Love your Way".

Disturbed's version of "The Sound of Silence" was amazing. Even Paul Simon said he liked it.

Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" fits well so much better than NIN's original.

Absolutely concur with Riff Raff on "Venus." I also think Kim Wilde did the same with her version of "You Keep Me Hangin' On."

Other favorites of mine:
Tina Turner over Al Green: "Let's Stay Together"
Anne Murray over The Beatles: "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You" (IMO it works better as a ballad)
Emmylou Harris over The Beatles: "Here, There and Everywhere"
Natalie Cole over Bruce Springsteen: "Pink Cadillac"
Whitney Houston over Chaka Khan: "I'm Every Woman"
Barry Manilow over Helen Reddy: "Somewhere in the Night"
The Bangles over Simon & Garfunkel: "Hazy Shade of Winter"
Willie Nelson over Elvis: "Always on My Mind"

Kim Wilde remake of The Supremes 1966 song "You Keep Me Hangin' On" was # 1 on June 6, 1987. The hard rock group Vanilla Fudge did that in 1967 BUT it returned to the charts & went to # 6 in late August 1968.

You know that Donny Osmond is the king of remakes & Linda Ronstadt is the queen of remakes. (the late Casey Kasem said that on the "American Top 40" radio show). I also count Rod Stewart as well & Joan Jett & The Blackhearts the group of remakes.

I legit thought that was an original song by them. Wow thanks

Often, the 1st version you hear (especially when accompanied by repeatedly hearing it) will end up being your favourite.

Of course, this means no disrespect for the original...

For me:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - Elton John (*) vs Beatles
Born Under a Bad Sign - Pat Travers vs Albert King

(*) this guy could have released the Alphabet Song during the time period this was released, and had a # 1 hit with it.

With me, it's probably Jimmy Buffett's cover version of "Brown Eyed Girl".

Did not know that one existed! I've have to look that one up!
