What are songs that you thought were sung by one band, but were actually someone else?

When "On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty was released in 1983, a lot of people (myself included) thought it was Bruce Springsteen. Which was probably no accident.

Crumbling Down by John Mellencamp - at the time I thought it was The Rolling Stones, still think they could have done it though.

When I first heard "Flirtin' With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet in the '70s I thought there was a new Jethro Tull release with Ian Anderson and the band going retro southern! Anderson and the former's Danny Joe Brown were amazing soundalikes, especially as heard on old Tull songs such as "A Song For Jeffrey".

Canadian group Steel River "Ten Pound Note" (from 1970 "Weighin' Heavy" album on Evolution) (audio only) Song went to # 109 (Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100) in November of 1970. Thought that song was by Eddie Vedder & Pearl Jam!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiL_VoC ... iver-Topic

That would have been an easy assumption since The Cars had just started and both bands were using the same producer at the time (Roy Thomas Baker).

So many people believe Rupert Holmes's Escape (the Pina Colada Song) is Jimmy Buffett, which is odd to me since their voices sound nothing alike. Many people believe any Reggae Song is Bob Marley even after his death. I also saw a YouTube video listing Bad to the Bone as a ZZ Top song. My father also thought Rock Me Gently was a Neil Diamond song as well. Long Cool Woman by the Hollies is also often attributed to CCR, which makes sense as the sound is very similar and the vocalist sounds very much like John Fogarty.
