Billboard #1s vs. Cash Box #1s, 1960 to 1989.

Although so called "Research" has polluted their results by exclusion of some records from "Testing", these lists might be a basis for some adjustments in playlists.

Station AOR Playlists CLAIMED to play all album tracks of their charted albums, but they RARELY played more than three tracks from those albums. It's difficult to do the same kind of playlists for album tracks.

Especially with album based 300 track playlists on satellite channels, for various "Classic Rock" decades, the selections almost seem like a subtle form of payola in their inclusions and exclusions. And personal tastes of playlist programmers are NEVER completely absent. And some formats seem to be highly arbitrary. Some tracks seem entirely out of place, often deep tracks of otherwise pretty good recording artists, included in those 300 ad nauseam and cause quick tune outs. No wonder people listen to their own collections.
