Neil Young was mentioned earlier- he had two long songs on 2007's "Chrome Dreams II" album. "Ordinary People" ran 18:13, and "No Hidden Path" was 14:31.

He's put long songs on a number of his albums, but not usually two on the same collection. Neil has released numerous previously unreleased tracks and entire previously unreleased albums with regularity. He's put out almost 50 studio albums since 1968, and somewhere around 20 live albums and concert recordings on top of that.

I agree with that. His two books, "Waging Heavy Peace" and "Special Deluxe" are pretty good, too.

I've always appreciated Gordon Lightfoot, as well as both Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman for their work solo and together, but Neil's in another league altogether.

Back in the long songs category, Lou Reed's 4 "Metal Machine Music" tracks each clock in at over 16 minutes, but calling those songs is a stretch, and they're not too listenable. I've listened with headphones, no less, but don't expect to repeat that anytime soon.

"Ethel, you wanna get some clams?" :lol

Another favorite long song is "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" by the aforementioned Gordon Lightfoot. I suppose you could add "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".

Nobody has mentioned Rush yet? Good Lord! Side 1 of 2112 clocks in nearly 21 minutes. Cygnus X-1 on Hemispheres takes up all of side 1 again and clocks in at nearly 19 minutes.

I thought about Rush when I started this thread but somehow it just didn't come out. The Camera Eye, I think, is their last really long song.

Yep. Signals had no songs over 7 minutes. It was all 4-6 by then.

Caress of Steel had a couple of long ones. All of those 70s albums did barring the first album.

The Raspberries "I Can Remember" which is exactly 8 minutes (from their 1972 first album which had a scratch n' sniff which smelled like a raspberry). Also lead singer Eric Carmen "Run Away" is 8:05 (from 1977 "Boats Against The Current").

Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) "Foreigner Suite" is 18 minutes long which is the whole side 1 from 1973.
