707

Anyone here remember a band called 707?

I hadn't heard this song in decades, but woke up to the melody playing in Radio Noggin the other day and had to look it up...

I always had them in a clump with Prism, (or any group who opened for REO Speedwagon in 1981.)

Former Rolling Stone critic Dave Marsh said "Second rate Toto" in the Rolling Stone Record Guide book in 1983. In 1982, the song "Megaforce" got airplay on radio including "Q106" in Jackson, MI.

The song "Mega Force" (also the title song from the movie) went to # 62 (Hot 100) & # 12 (Billboard Mainstream Rock) in July of 1982 & their last swan song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKUQpQY ... =707-Topic

The song "I Could Be Good For You" went to # 52 (Hot 100) in November of 1980 (edited version).

Looks like 707 changed personnel often; they were not the same for that 2nd 'hit' as when 'I Could Be Good For You' was released.

I remember MegaForce (the song, not the movie). Sounded a bit like Journey (the lead singer of MF did go on to sing with Journey for a short while after Steve Perry left that band). Looks like there was another Journey connection: Jonathan Cain (Babys, Journey) got songwriting creds for MegaForce (ostensibly for the keyboard intro to the song). There's even a misguided post of the song on YT as being Journey:

As far as the movie, I laughed when I read Rotten Tomatoes' first line of the review:

"A 65-minute movie that is 99 minutes long, Megaforce feels like the unaired pilot for an unwatchable TV show."

There's a 'trailer' for it out on YT and indeed, it is hideous.

707 had a lot of Journey links. Kevin Chalfant, who was the lead singer on 707's "Megaforce" single, would form The Storm with three former Journey members (Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory, Steve Smith) in the early 1990s. The Storm would have a top 40 pop and top 10 rock hit with "I've Got a Lot to Learn About Love" in 1992. Chalfant would join Journey very briefly in the 1993-94 timeframe before Steve Perry rejoined (briefly) for the Trial by Fire album.
