A saw a picture of The Sweet's lead singer Brian Connelly a few years before he died. I guess a lot of 70 Glam Rockers don't age very well. (Maybe David Bowie was an exception but it's limiting to call him a 70's glam rocker.)

I guess it was the lead singer Brian that said "Are you ready, Steve?" at the beginning of "Ballroom Blitz". I guess that's why I didn't know who Brian was. He named the rest of the group. That sounds like a new topic, songs that call out the other members of the group. "Dance To The Music" by Sly and the Family Stone comes to mind. "Creeque Alley" by the Mamas and the Papas, and "Back in My Arms Again" by The Supremes. James Brown called out Maceo in one recording.

New Edition / Cool It Now (" Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, if I like a girl who cares who you like.") I'm kind of embarrassed I know that.

I often wondered if the "Girl in the corner that no one ignores" was the same person as the "Fox on the run". Songwriters seem to be obsessive about certain people they write their songs about. Jim Webb wrote about a dozen songs about Suzy Horton Ronstadt (who is or was a cousin in law of Linda Ronstadt), including "Where's The Playground Susie" about the eponymous Suzy. They used to have lunch in MacArthur Park daily near where they worked. One day Susie/Suzy wore a yellow cotton dress that foamed like a wave around her knees. The rest is History. Another topic-all the songs that Jim Webb wrote about Susie/Suzy. Despite him musically stalking her for years, she was/is flattered and they remain good friends, although like Dan Fogelberg's HS GF Jill Anderson, they were both married to other people. Did you ever see the interview with Sylvia Pandolfi's Mother? Avery just fit better than Pandolfi, for composer Shel Silverstein. Then there's the Pretty Ballerina, Renee Fladen Kamm(whose platinum dyed hair was indeed brilliant), and Denise LeFrak, now a real estate mogul.

The Sweet "Ballroom Blitz" was sampled in a Beastie Boys 1989 song. (She's the passionate one)!!

The song was called "Hey Ladies" by The Beastie Boys (from 1989 "Paul's Boutigue")

I was listening to an AM station while driving on a two-lane road in Oklahoma when the network news came on at the top of the hour. At one point in the newscast, the announcer stopped, and "Ballroom Blitz" came on. It was rather confusing until the newscaster returned to report on the passing of Brian Connolly.

That moment stood out, and I always think back to it if I hear news of another musician passing via the radio. I hope Sweet's music continues to be played -they made some great top 40 music.

And, that Beastie Boys song (plus the whole Paul's Boutique album) is a classic.
