Bands named After People Not In THe Band

Post by sfpcc » Fri Jan 31, 2020 2:29 pm

Can anyone out there think of any bands named after people who are not in the band. For Example:

Jethro Tull (inventor of the seed drill)
Danny Wilson (80's pop band I don't know a lot about)
Marshall Tucker
Max Webster, (friends of Rush)
April Wine (just kidding but I bet there is a person out there named April Wine.)

Well, you forgot the obvious, Frankenmuth's own Greta VanFleet.

Lynyrd Skynyrd might count, as it was named after Leonard Skinner, a teacher of several of the founding members

Leonard Skinner was first mentioned as the kid with Ptomaine poisoning after dinner in "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" by Allan Sherman.

If you open it up to count fictional people Uriah Heep.

Molly Hatchet (supposedly she was a 19th century prostitute who used to behead her customers. That isn't good for repeat business.)
Babe Ruth (around in the 70's, I don't know a lot abut them.)
Walt Mink (they were an indie band in the 80's who named themselves after a psychology professor.)

Well, if you want to include Molly Hatchet, you might as well throw in 80s metal band Lizzy Borden....also named after a murderess

This is lifted from Pablo Cruise's Wikipedia page.

"Initially there were many fans left wondering who Pablo Cruise really was. When asked the question the band, which is a quartet, said " " he's the guy in The Middle" " When asked what Pablo Cruise meant the band would say, " " Pablo represents a honest down to earth individual, and Cruise represents his fun loving and easygoing attitude." " "

So I guess the answer is not exactly.

At the beginning of Pablo Cruise "I Go To Rio" (from 1978 "Worlds Away"), a telephone rings & he said (hello) "Hello girl, this is Pablo.....(where are you) I hope that I can't make it today because i'm at the bottom of the pool". Then the phone slams!!! On the "20th Master Series: The Millinnium Collection", there is 20 to 25 more seconds of "I Go To Rio" at the end of the song!!!

Veruca Salt (character in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the two movies that came from the book)

ZZ Top (named after blues musician ZZ Hill)

Pink Floyd ("oh, by the way, which one's Pink?" - named after blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council)
