Classic Aircheck Thread
Hey everyone.
I thought it would be cool to have a "classic" aircheck thread for local radio stations. I found that WJLB one and thought maybe a dedicated thread would be better.
If you come across anything you like, put one up!
It can be found in the golden years section.
Thanks!

Re: Classic Aircheck Thread
Somewhere I have a 1/4" reel of Dick Purtan airchecks. Not sure where it came from or what year but my dad had it in his collection.
Re: Classic Aircheck Thread
As someone without a background in broadcasting I don't know what the term "Air Check" means.
Can someone please enlighten me?
Thanks

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Re: Classic Aircheck Thread
An aircheck is either scoped or unscoped. A scoped one just shows the on-air personality talking, while an unscoped one has everything, the personality, the music, the imaging, and the commercials.
Re: Classic Aircheck Thread
The tape machine would trigger to record whenever the mike opened on a scoped aircheck.
Here's a guy I worked with at WILS....and his check at WLS. He was hired as a part timer and you knew this kid had immense talent. I'll always thank him for covering my shift the night Magic beat Bird in 1979. He had a great career, eventually was a morning man in Louisville for many years until he heard the calling and is now an ordained pastor at a Catholuc church.

If his sermon is half as good as his radio show, then it would a be hit.Honeyman wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:08 pmThe tape machine would trigger to record whenever the mike opened on a scoped aircheck.
