Most of us have missed a gear, a few times, I never had any issues, then again, my redline is 5,000 and peak HP is 3750.

This reminds me of a girl I went to H.S. with. She took her dad's Ferrari out one Friday night and went racing down Telegraph Road in Detroit. She thought "R" meant race...

That being said, a modern manual Toyota should have a fail safe.

The only "fail safe" that exists to keep someone from missing a shift like this and grenading an engine is an automatic transmission.

There are lock out features that block you from engaging a gear that will create a problem. My son's WRX is manual and has this feature.
