50th Anniversary of Streaking Fad

It was at about this time of year 50 years ago that the streaking fad hit its peak. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and laughed at this observation:
The prominence of streaking in 1974 has been linked both to the sexual revolution and a conservative backlash against feminism and the campus protests of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
I remember it as just a bunch of crazy exhibitionists having some fun.

By the summer time, it had pretty much exhausted itself, after the streaker at the Oscar ceremonies in April and Ray Stevens' song "The Streak."

I was at Tigers opening day that year, I think there were 7 streaking episodes, one guy managed to get on some rigging under the scoreboard and was swinging back and forth for a bit. Oh the good old days.....

Why was it always done with trench coats? That’s what I am curious about. I wasn’t alive at the time so I don’t get it.

Maybe same reason my shorts have to go down to almost my knees.

Years ago at UM there was an end of year streaking fad down South U.
Eventually the authorities put an end to it by threatening to make arrests and put people on the sex offender registry.

Detroit Free Press (April 10, 1974)

Yes, Tigers Had Their Streakers

The first Tiger Stadium streaker of the season made his appearance in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday, when he stripped off his clothes and raced up the middle aisle in the centerfield bleachers with nothing but his vanity to protect him from the 38-degree weather.

Apparently encouraged by the standing ovation the original streaker received, a near epidemic of nudity erupted in the centerfield bleachers.

Two more young men stripped and raced up and down the aisles, one pausing long enough to grab hold of the base of the scoreboard and take four or five leisurely swings in full view of the crowd of 44,047.

Later, a man stripped and sat nonchalantly observing the game.

An apparent introvert made his way onto the field during the seventh inning stretch, but his streak was hampered by a T-shirt and underwear.
