Here she comes boys...
...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches
possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Generally, I don't worry until it hits 45 mph, but with wet snow....

* WHERE...Portions of Northern Lower Michigan.

* WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening
commutes.
And Spectrum has it's "Don't call us when your power goes out" message...

Gaylord and East always get big numbers.

I'm expecting pretty impressive totals in central MI (away from Lake Huron) plus most of northern lower MI. I agree places like Gaylord and Houghton Lake are poised to see higher totals from this system.

The area just north of Grand Rapids and also the Tri-Cities is a tough forecast. Snow totals could be as low as a couple inches or as high as 6 to 8 inches depending on a 40 or 50 mile deviation in storm track.

For southern lower MI, I am much more worried about the upcoming Friday / Saturday storm.

Things have changed a bit....

Petoskey got an EAS phone alert to stock up for 3 days. They are now on pace to get 6"-11" of wet snow. That is a plow killer. Also, the 40mph winds will topple trees covered with heavy snow.

Traverse City and Central U.P. will get 4"-6" and the Storm Warning is now gone.

Grand Rapids is now 2"-4" with normal winds.

Thus far this forecast is turning out to be a clusterfuck on the weather services part.

The big story will prove to be the brutally cold air mass poised to strike our area next week.

That’s true… however we’ll have to see how the snow shakes out with that. There is a 50-70% chance of greater than 4” as of last night according to NWS for Friday into Saturday. What will also be interesting is how much lake effect occurs… 6 of the next 7 days have a change for snow so maybe we are gonna get locked in a cold snowy pattern for a minute… the weather seems to do that more lately… get stuck in repetitive loops for weeks on end.

Computer models disagree on exactly where this cold air is going to end up, but here it is as of Friday night:

I've been robbed. It's barely snowing. Folks here are hoping for a snow day tomorrow, but I don't see it happening...

Brutally cold temps do not produce H*** snow accumulation.

The barometric pressure at my house on a baraometer that I've had for many years reads 28.74 inches. First time I've ever seen it get below 29. This is one powerful low pressure system!
