New car sales data in U.S. through April 2023

I must say - there are some surprises in here (at least to me).
Tesla Model Y is the fourth best selling passenger automobile in the country both YTD and for April individually!
Tesla now commands greater market share than Subaru.
The Silverado is giving the F-150 a run for its money.
I was surprised to see Nissan ahead of Hyundai and Kia by a substantial margin.
Mazda needs to fire a bunch of people responsible for marketing if it has not already done so; its market share is abysmal.
Jaguar should just exit the U.S. market entirely.
The redesigned CR-V outsold RAV4 in both March (a near tie) and April but RAV4 still leads for the year.
I was surprised to see the Camry post such strong unit sales in April.

That's surprising given Tesla's rather infamous poor quality and customer service.

I've always bought North American, Union built vehicles. But it's looking more and more like my next vehicle will have to be an import.
The domestics are now building only trucks and luxury SUVs
They've forfeited the rest of the market to the off-shore producers.

There are some mid size GM SUV’s still built in the US and Canada. Other UAW products are the Ford Escape and Jeep products.

Thanks for that. I've printed off the list.
Toyota builds their RAV 4 in the town of Woodstock ON about 30 miles from here. But they aren't Union.

Is Honda Ohio union? I have gained respect for them.
Ford's recalls are catching up with them and I agree that exiting the sedan market is a bad move for domestic manufacturers.
Nissan just launched a slew of new products for 2023, expect then to be strong for a while.
Mazda has nothing exciting, don't blame marketing for poor leadership.

They built their factories here in the late 60’s / early 70’s before the others did amongst the backlash against Japanese made imports. The other brands built factories here to stave off possible tarrifs as the Big 3’s market share was eroding.

Poor leadership is the reason their marketing strategy is a joke. They did release two new SUV models in the past twelve months (the CX-90 just hit the market), and another one is to follow next year.
Their infotainment screen dimensions and control mechanisms are deterrents to mainstream consumers, in my opinion.
Nissan just launched a slew of new products for 2023, expect then to be strong for a while.
Purchasing any vehicle with a Jatco CVT is a big mistake. Lots of people make that mistake, unfortunately. Jatco RWD transmissions are significantly more reliable than the crappy CVTs that they make. I'll never have a daily driver in snowy Michigan with RWD again. Might be a decent choice in areas that see little to no snow.

The Mazda infotainment system is not the easiest to use. They are also not a full service company as they don't offer a pickup truck. That does hurt their sales in this country.
