Old 62 showed Lou Grant a couple of years before the big Fox/CBS switch of 1994. I Haven't seen it on the METV, THIS, Cozi,, etc. He played a cranky neighbor on Modern Family a few years ago.

What I actually remember him from was his regular appearances 10-15 years ago on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno where he did a bit called "Does this Impress Ed Asner?" where people would show off their goofy talents - similar to "Stupid Human Tricks" on Letterman.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a comedy. Lou Grant was a drama with comedic overtones. Ed Asner made Lou Grant a multi-dimensional character who could successfully transition from one genre to the other. I can imagine that's no easy task for an actor, but Asner had the talent to pull it off. RIP Lou!

In the 2009 Disney Pixar's movie "Up", the grandfather (voiced by Asner) says "So long fellas" (when he goes up in the air) BUT does not show him blowing the raspberry. Instead he says "I will be seeing you" or something. I wonder if they made a mistake???

Asner, in addition to playing the Santa character in The Santa Clause with Tim Allen, was the voice of Santa in the Fox animated special Olive the Other Reindeer with Drew Barrymore.

Trivia factoid. Good for cocktail parties.

Correction...Asner played Sauna in "Elf". "The Santa Clause" was, of course, Tim Allen.

Brain fart.
