Student’s Axe body spray ‘prank’ causes evacuation of Florida school bus

PARRISH, Fla. – It wasn’t the “Axe effect” the body spray company intended when a Florida middle school student’s pungent mist prompted a school bus evacuation Monday.

The bus was carrying students from Buffalo Creek Middle School when at least one of the children discharged an excessive amount of Axe body spray, WFLA reports. Authorities believe the incident was a prank.

Thirty Manatee County children were escorted off the bus, 15 of whom were treated for “mild respiratory irritation” and released, according to Parrish Fire District officials.

Photos from the scene show at least four ambulances, along with Parrish fire vehicles.

A second driver met the evacuated students to help them get home.

The print version of this story really failed to capture it's true essence.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Truck carrying load of Axe body spray explodes in Texas

A section of Interstate 35 in Texas was reduced to the consistency of gravel after a truck carrying Axe body spray exploded due to a fire igniting the highly flammable aerosol cans.

An 18-wheeler was driving on I-35 through Belton, Texas, about 60 miles north of Austin, around 4 a.m. Friday when the driver saw a fire in his rearview mirror, according to CNN affiliate KXXV-TV. The driver pulled over to the shoulder and detached the trailer from the truck.

The trailer exploded when the fire reached the trailer and its containers of aerosol deodorant, CNN affiliate KWTX-TV reports. Spray cans were launched in both directions of I-35.

Despite the large explosion that snarled traffic on the interstate for about eight hours, no one was hurt.

Jodi Wheatley, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Transportation, told CNN Sunday three lanes and both shoulders on the section of I-35 will need to be removed and replaced because of the intensity of the fire.

A transportation employee told the Temple Daily Telegram newspaper the road was damaged and that the highway was “like gravel” after the explosion.

The cause of the fire was not announced.

Southbound I-74 back open after semi truck spills animal parts

MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - Southbound I-74 is back open in Moline after a semi truck spilled animal parts across the roadway.

According to a post on the Moline Police Department's Facebook page, the interstate was closed for a period of time while clean-up was underway. Officials say a semi truck spilled hog entrails on the roadway.

"This is a sad and horribly smelling ending to "This little piggy went to the market," but Illinois Department of Transportation arrived and cleaned up the mess," the post stated.

Officials say the road is still "slippery and greasy" and are advising people to use caution when driving in that area.

The post went on to state, "Also our apologies to our neighbors to the north as the winds are blowing 8mph out of the south and carrying a scent even AXE body spray wouldn't cover up."

Shoplifter Pulls Knife On Shop ‘n Save Employees, Employees Fight Back

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A shoplifter pulled a knife on Shop ‘n Save employees when they caught him in the act on Friday, according to Pittsburgh Police.

When police arrived to the Brownsville Road location, three people were holding down the suspect, Lawrence Barren, on a table. Police gave commands to Barren to drop the knife, and Barren threw the knife onto the table.

Barren, 28 years old, allegedly stole one packet of Matador Beef Jerky, two sticks of Degree deodorant, two sticks of Axe deodorant, one stick of Axe bodyspray and a tube of Colgate toothpaste. Altogether, the items were worth exactly $32.20.

A witness said they observed Barren stuffing the items in his bookbag. When the witness approached Barren about the shoplifting, the fight broke out.

Eventually, two employees joined the fight, during which Barren apparently yelled: “I’m gonna come back and kill all of you.” Shortly after he said that, Barren revealed that he had a knife and proceeded to claim “Ima stab you,” according to the criminal complaint.

Upon being arrested, Barren said, “I’m sorry sir, I did take the deodorant, I was gonna sell it.”

On the criminal complaint, police list the charges they wish to press against Barren based on his own confession and other eyewitness accounts: terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and retail theft.

Florida student mistakes pepper spray for body spray

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida middle school student mistakenly released pepper spray after grabbing what he thought was a canister of body spray from another student, school district officials said.

The seventh grade student has been issued a civil citation for the Feb. 28 incident at Highlands Middle School in Jacksonville that sent 41 students to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, Principal Evan Daniels said in pre-recorded messages sent to parents on Thursday, the Florida Times-Union reported.

"Thinking it was body spray, the student who took the canister actually sprayed himself as if he were applying a body fragrance product," Daniels said. "The gymnasium was evacuated and ultimately 41 students were transported to area hospitals for care."

The student who brought the pepper spray to school will face appropriate disciplinary consequences for bringing a prohibited substance onto the campus, the school district said.

"We take it very seriously, but we're also ... dealing with students here," School Police Department Director Micheal Edwards said in a news conference.

Axe distances itself from body spray apparently left by Capitol rioter

The men’s grooming company Axe on Thursday attempted to distance itself from the pro-Trump rioter who apparently left a can of its body spray behind during the Capitol breach.

“We'd rather be lonely than with that mob,” Axe said in a tweet.

The account was responding to a picture from Washington Post reporter Mike DeBonis, which showed a discarded Axe can among the debris following Wednesday’s violence.

“AXE condemns yesterday's acts of violence and hate at the Capitol. We believe in the democratic process and the peaceful transition of power,” the company said.

Many social media users applauded the company for speaking out. Some claimed that the strongly worded condemnation was more fierce than initial statements from President Trump or congressional Republicans.

Trump, during remarks on Wednesday to supporters on the Ellipse, encouraged them to march to the Capitol to urge lawmakers not to certify the Electoral College votes. President-elect Joe Biden won both the Electoral College and popular votes in November.

Following Trump's remarks, rioters who approached the Capitol toppled barricades, overwhelmed Capitol Police and caused mayhem throughout the building, smashing windows, stealing laptops and vandalizing offices.

Four protesters died, including a 35-year-old woman whom a Capitol policeman shot as she attempted to access the House chamber.

A Capitol Police officer, Brian Sicknick, 42, also died of injuries sustained during the assault.
