Modern Day Busking

We've all seen the guy standing on the sidewalk, strumming his guitar and wailing out some lonesome cowboy song. Guitar case open at his feet for people to drop money into.

Saw a new variation on this, yesterday. Guy outside a liquor store. Had his boom box on the sidewalk blasting out some kind of rap or hip hop. Shoe box beside it with about $5 in coins. Probably put the coins there himself just to indicate to people what the box was for.

That is called "busking"? I never knew that. Thank you.......learned summin' new today.

In Toronto, busking is a profession. Buskers pay the city a license fee that gives them exclusive rights to perform in a desirable, high traffic area, like a subway station or a busy, downtown intersection.

It isn't just musicians. There are juggling clowns, strippers, mimes, magicians etc. And some of them are pretty good

. (I was just kidding about the strippers .)
