Florida man killed by cousin testing 'bulletproof' vest

TAMPA BAY (WFTS / CNN Newsource) - Police say a Tampa man fatally shot his cousin to test out a protective vest.

24-year-old Alexandro Garibaldi is charged with manslaughter with a weapon and being a felon in possessing a firearm in the death of 23-year-old Joaquin Mendez.

Garibaldi told police he heard a gunshot Saturday and found his wounded cousin inside the house.

But police say a witness told them Mendez was sitting in a camping chair wearing a fragmentation protective vest, also called a flak jacket, and wondered whether it worked.

According to the witness, Garibaldi then took out a handgun, said "let's see" and shot him in the upper body.

He later died at a hospital.

Flak jackets are designed to stop fragments from explosive weapons such as grenades, but not bullets.

Garibaldi is being held without bail.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Sad. Not only were they cousins, but they were vest friends.

InVESTigations so far have revealed he took a bullet for his cousin and he has received nothing but flak And a lousy jacket for his selflessness.
