For someone who racked up as many hours on-air (much of it live) as he had, it's remarkable he never uttered anything so stupid/tasteless/insensitive/belligerent as to get himself tossed off the air or a gig. Not an easy task.

Letterman always said Regis was one of two broadcasters that he admired greatly and respected professionally (The other is Stern). Dave put them on a pedestal because he felt they avoided the greatest sin a broadcaster can commit. That is to be boring.

RIP Big man.

Too bad Letterman didn't take his own advice. LOL

Philbin did try pretty hard, but without the filth.

I didn't realize until yesterday that Regis was older than Elizabeth Taylor by about six months (I looked up Elizabeth Taylor's birthday after a Celebrity Jeopardy episode with Regis aired last night and there was a clue that mentioned her)

I remember Regis' network debut as Joey Bishop's sidekick on the latter's ill-fated answer to the Tonight Show.
