Who serves its audience best?

In the markets you are most familiar with, what station do you think does the best job of serving its target audience?

Note that this doesn't necessarily mean your favorite station.

For me, it's WWJ-AM.

Here in London ON, the only one that really serves the community is CBC Radio I. But, since it's non-commercial, it doesn't really have a market to serve. The local stations here, you're lucky to even get a news or weather report after 6:00 PM or on weekends. Just hours of syndicated talk shows.

99.1 WIKB is one of the best I've ever heard with "Telephone Time" airing 0900-1200 Monday thru Saturday.

Had a friend who worked at a small town radio station in Ontario. When the guy was reading the obituaries, the others would gather outside the booth and try to make him laugh.

The obituary program was grandma’s favorite radio show. She was dying to hear it everyday, until one day she actually was part of the program. Sources at the radio station claim that the audience for the obituary program is dying off.

Heard an interview with Stephen King once. Said when he was growing up in a small town in Maine, he used to read the obituaries in the local paper every day. Then he would stroke out their names in the phone book.

Tell that to the 35 and younger crowd that don’t even own a radio. The cellphone is their radio and television. So where will old fashioned radio and television be after us old timers are gone and dead. (of course I won’t give a shit, I’ll be dead) So personally, I give old fashioned radio maybe another 30 years of existence.

Well technology will have advanced a lot in 30 years. And then after most folks in the 55 and older Demo are dead or nearly so we’ll have a homogenous political climate or nearly so. We always move on and come together eventually. This is no different. Eventually when folks used to diversity come to dominate things at all levels the silliness in this moment will be gone.

I didn't own a radio at that age either. Couldn't afford one. I was struggling to pay the rent and put food on our table. Now I own several very good radios and I use them every day.
