They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
Ash Wednesday. The day all the phonies go and get the smudge of dirt on their foreheads and wear it around all day, like a badge of piety.
Should use shoe polish. Might get two or three days out of it. Better yet, have it permanently tattooed. Could be holy every day of the year.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Is this one those "hey get off the lawn", moments?
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

I'm just betting that half of these characters never go anywhere near a church the rest of the year. But, on this one day of the year, they get to be conspicuously pious.

I wouldn't think so, but you might be right.

Re: They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
I think Christmas and Easter would be most likely for the once in awhile folks but especially Christmas... Ash Wednesday takes a little extra commitment on a weekday evening and all...
Re: They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
But when you go to church on Christmas or Easter, you don't get a badge or a star to wear the rest of the day.

Re: They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
But getting that really isn’t the point... it’s a sign of faith not pride.Turkeytop wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:34 pmBut when you go to church on Christmas or Easter, you don't get a badge or a star to wear the rest of the day.
Re: They're Coming Out of the Woodwork
With today's technology it should be possible to mass produce halos. Someone ought to do it. There'd be a ready market for them among the Ash Wednesday crowd.

You could star in the broadway version of that story you remember...

I'm surprised to see Ash Wednesday receive so much pop culture attention this year.
I always thought this was a Catholics only thing. Are other Christian denominations now doing this?

Hey. Ash Wednesday is now cool, among a certain class. The same class that wears clothing with the brand logo on the outside. They get to wear the Ash Wednesday logo on their forehead for a few hours.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 6:16 pmI'm surprised to see Ash Wednesday receive so much pop culture attention this year.

Catholics and mainline Protestant denominations such as Lutherans and Presbyterians do it. Not sure if the anglicans and Episcopalians get in on it or not... essentially the closer a church is to being Catholic (Lutherans aren’t THAT far off) the more likely they are to do the Ash Wednesday deal.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 6:16 pmI'm surprised to see Ash Wednesday receive so much pop culture attention this year.
