Honda Recalls 250,000 vehicles

Post by TC Talks » Sun Nov 19, 2023 8:35 pm

Honda rarely goes recall, but when they do...
According to the company, a manufacturing error with the engine crankshaft could cause the connecting rod bearing in affected engines to prematurely wear and seize.
This is going to be expensive. A camshaft swap is going to be north of 10 hours. 2.5 million hours at $120.

The bigger challenge; most dealers don't have the bandwidth to handle a project of this magnitude. Spread out equally across the 1072 dealers, that's 2450 camshaft replacements per dealer or 24,500 hours of work. That's 12 full time techs (Honda trained) per dealer working for an entire year. My dealer employs 5.

I didn't track down the link to this, but there's a h-u-g-e difference in a camshaft swap vs a crankshaft swap. Virtually all camshaft swaps (especially OHC) can be done in the car, but virtually NO crankshafts can be done the same way.

Honda says it's 1% of the 250,000, but they have check them. So 2,500 nationwide will probably be getting new engines, or crankshafts.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

You think that's bad, Toyota replaced my entire frame on my last track. It took two weeks.
