Great info here, courtesy of WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

https://www.woodtv.com/news/national/eq ... a-get-125/

I opted for the four free years of tri-bureau monitoring over the $125 in cash.

Usually, tri-bureau monitoring costs about $20 per month. Getting that service for four years for free is a good deal.

I have free monitoring from another source, so I took the cash. 2 of my reports are locked already, so there can't be fraud through them.

Thanks for providing this info. Until I checked that link, I had no idea my personal info had been impacted. Thankfully my wife’s info wasn’t. I also requested the monitoring

Now, the FTC is saying the folks who opted for the $125 cash settlement payment will wind up receiving much less due to overwhelming demand.

Glad I picked the four years of free monitoring instead!

I have to call out WOOD TV (and other media outlets as well) on this one for passing on disinformation. Even in their own article (and I noticed this when you first posted it), they say that there was $425 million allotted to be distributed among those affected, which they also note is 147 million people. Some simple math says that if all 147 million were to file a claim that each person would only get $3, hence suggesting that the $125 expected payment was based on an assumption that only 3.4 million would make a claim. I don't recall ANY news outlet pointing out this math - math which I figured out upon first read of the first article I read.
