Yep. But the difference is if I will also be criticizing them for not living life and shaping society the exact same way I did, or was afforded to, because it will be a different environment they're growing up and living in. That criticism is a personal choice, not a generational choice. That's up to each individual.

Compare the actual cost of college back then compared to what it is now. Adjust inflation and a minimum wage that hasn’t kept up. Then get back to me. Even Republicans acknowledge skyrocketing costs of college.
I just did that and was astounded by what I found. Let's look only at the most basic yardsticks, tuition and wages.

I started at MSU in 1974. Tuition was $16.50 per credit hour. It went up a dollar
an hour at some point, but I will stick with the lower figure for purposes of this discussion. At the same time, minimum wage was $1.60 per hour.

In 1974, it took about 10.3 hours labor at minimum wage to pay for one credit hour.

In 2018, one credit hour at MSU cost $482.00. Minimum wage today in Michigan is $9.45 per hour. It requires roughly 51 hours at minimum wage today to pay for one credit hour.

It's beyond ludicrous for anybody to say "I did it on my own 45 years ago, why can't you lazy punks do what I did?" But this place is full of flannel-mouthed blowhards who refuse to understand the differences between the lives they led during the Ford administration and the challenges students face today.

Thanks for your support Vic. Much appreciated.

The tuition and wage point doesn't address things like insurance either. Instead of HMO's of the past, the companies we work for offer HIGH DEDUCTIBLE HEALTH PLANS accompanied with HSA's. Meaning, we have to save up for our high deductibles ahead of time. If you don't have enough in your HSA to meet your deductible at the time of medical procedure or emergency, you pay the difference toward your HIGH DEDUCTIBLE HEALTH PLAN. It's a HIGH DEDUCTIBLE. It's in the freakin name!

One medical emergency, and we're thrown in to debt. I owed thousands for a simple colonoscopy because my insurance company determined it was "elective." ELECTIVE! As if I wanted a colonoscopy like an ice cream cone. I am LUCKY I afforded a personal savings account to cover the balance after my HSA I built up for YEARS was wiped out. Hope no one encounters that while in school.

Then car insurance, shitty roads eating our cars, people wanting cheaper and cheaper products and services which = lower wages. The list of struggles goes on. God forbid we want our phones to stay charged so our bosses who require our constant connection can keep in touch, we're not even allowed the stress of the thought of not having a phone charger around if our phone were to die.

I do see both of your points but this is all based on minimum wage, If you remain on minimum wage that is no ones fault but the person that stays in the same wage bracket, And I’m not saying that you Zenith are most Millennials you do seem to be different from the rest and no disrespect to you. The fact is in my case, I did pay my own way through school and have been successful. But did indeed work extremely hard, But I was not the only one out there doing this.

Would you hire an uneducated or inexperienced college student for full time work at a living wage to, let's say $30 an hour, before they finish school? No? Hmm. $15 an hour? No? A compatible job with a college student's education, experience, and class schedule is fast food (for example). "$15 an hour? HELL NO! THEY DON'T DESERVE THAT MUCH!" What about marketing executive for $30/hour? "HELL NO! THEY'RE NOT EXPERIENCED AND NO EDUCATION!" Can't win for losing.

College students rarely make very much more than minimum wage. Fix the system so they can afford the same things as you did, and live with the same comforts as you did. The current system ain't workin. Oh, we don't believe in fixing the system to make it FAIR for all. THAT'S "SOCIALISM"!!!!!!!

Tonight, I’m going to read the comments perhaps all 404 of them, Some of them look interesting in this article and see what most people feel about this situation.

Hope the comments section isn't like a newpaper's online comments section that lead you to believe humanity is only composed of slime. I highly doubt online comments on targeted articles like this represent everybody's true feelings on the subject, but knock yourself out. It's entertaining at least.

I got my math wrong for part of the equation and have edited my original post to correct the error. Minimum wage in 1974 was $1.60 in Michigan, so it took about 10.3 hours of minimum wage work for each credit hour. The point I made still stands.

Social media is stressful for young people if you let it be. In the old days it was one thing to be teased in school by someone, where several might see it, but at least you went home and got a break.

Put the same thing on social media and thousands could see it with torment continuing all evening and for days.

It's no wonder the teen suicide rate is high.

RIGHT ON,Zenith CKLW !!!!! You can't change a "great" system which allows 400 greedheads to possess more wealth than France, and ONE PERCENT of the population to have more wealth than NINETY-TWO PERCENT of the rest of the citizenry !!!!

First off, this list isn't exactly crazy by any stretch. There are some items on the trivial or silly side, but by and large they are quality of life issues.

Secondly, millennials do NOT equal all young people. The youngest millennials are turning 24 this year, and the oldest are turning 38. I'll turn 37 later this year, so I'm admittedly an elder millennial. Most of my personal friends are obviously in the same generation as I am, and none fit the millennial caricature. At work, there are baby boomers through Gen Z. People from each generation bring value to the organization and other people from each generation are also mediocre employees. I suspect anyone who has ever worked anywhere with a diverse range of ages would say the same. People are people and deserve to be judged on their character and their personal merits. Enough with segmenting the population and using sweeping generalizations.

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

So, someone stop filling these kids heads with the idea that college is a must.

A good plumber makes a help of a lot more than someone with a four year degree in humanities. No debt either. You get paid to learn.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Gotta say, these arguments make me laugh at both sides. The old hats screaming about how they had it rough and that the younger generation hasn't faced what they had to just sound like whiners bitter that they never got their ass patted as softly as they woulda liked. The kids who are complaining about how much they have to pay for school or that there are no jobs when they get out of school make me grin because they just sound mad that they haven't been handed opportunity.

It was hard then and hard now, just in different ways. if you work smart and hard enough, you'll get yours. sometimes you have to overperform for a while and sacrifice more than what your clear and present benefit will be, but if you do the right thing and are lucky, itll pay off.

The old folks who didn't make that for themselves should serve as a better example for the younger folks and encourage them rather than kick dirt in their faces. They might enjoy life more if the took the role of mentor instead of asshat.

And they can't export his job to China.

Thanks for your endorsement of the working class.
