Everybody I know calls IT gas. I've never heard anyone call it petro. There's a brand called Petro Canada.

Some of the Esso stations here have been rebronding as Mobil.

Admiral is one I've never seen.

The Yooper accent is very close to the Canadian accent.

In addition, when I worked in the escalated call center, people from down south always thought I was from Canada. I tend to use shorter vowels when I am speaking in my professional voice.

I always have difficulty with the southern accents. Once we were at a McD in GA. The woman at the desk couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand her. One of the younger, teen girls there had to act as an interpreter for us.

I would have loved to have witnessed this.

There used to be Esso stations in the USA. Their marketing folks thought Exxon had more pizazz, and rebranded the USA operations as such. They've since merged with Mobil under the corporate umbrella ExxonMobil. That would account for the Mobil stations popping up in Ontario.

That awful show Heavy Rescue 401 that once aired on The Weather Channel during the wee hours made me chuckle when the rescue crews unsuccessfully tried to use American slang. Most notable: using the word 'semi' (and mispronouncing it semee, as in 'semicolon') instead of using the local terms 'transport' or 'transport truck'.

They are from what my friends have said. Less hormones in Canadian beef.
