Zippo In The Morning

Post by sfpcc » Thu Jul 09, 2020 7:24 pm

Does anyone remember hearing Zippo In The Morning in the Detroit area? It was a syndicated morning show featuring the somewhat wacky host Jim Zippo. I listened to it when I was went to Northern Michigan in Marquette in the late 80's. He played a lot a 70's top forty songs that you don't really hear anymore, (well the station did in general.) A guess an example would be Yellow River by Christie or If You Want To Get To Heaven By The Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

He also developed a format and tried to syndicate it, it went from 50's thru 80's. He was morning host, not sure how well it did, remember getting the promotion package in the mail and listening to the CD, thinking it was interesting but a long shot. Can't remember the name he gave it.

Not sure if it was WRIF or WCSX that aired Zippo, but it was in Detroit in the 80’s.

He worked for one of the satellite Oldies networks often found on small/unrated market stations in the early & mid 90's.

The old 92.3 WKGH in Allegan carried his morning show.

Rock 95.5 in Chicago is the worst sounding major market rock station in the history of corporate radio.

That name strikes me as someone that has nothing to offer.
