Coming in fron London

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Coming in fron London

Strong pull from the NE this morning. Hotspot is London ONT. The highlight was FM96, which O hadn't heard since CJWF signed on 2009.

Heard 93.5 CBC radio Thursday along the sunrise side. Strong enough that RDS came on!

Wow. I wonder what brought that on. It was a treat hearing FM 96 again. And country 104 was in like a local; around here it's generally the Fox, but sometimes WLEN will sneak in.

Usually I pull in from the west; it's not uncommon to hear Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo stations. The NE pull was a surprise.

I live in London, so I just took my radio out to the patio to see if this propagation is bidirectional. I expected to hear some Detroit stations.

But it appears to be an east to west phenomenon. I was picking up stations from Toronto. Very unusual around here. CBC Radio II 94.1 was pounding in just as strong as our local Radio II. Jazz station CJRT 91.1, which I've never before heard hear is solid. I heard a few others I was unable to identify.

London is about midway between Toronto and Detroit. Reception from Detroit is unusual. Reception from Toronto is almost unheard of.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

I've picked up CFPL-FM from London (FM 96) a couple times in the past in Livingston County while driving I-96. It's probably been a few years since that last occurred. I don't get out that way as often as I once did.

Used to pick up the station at night in Ann Arbor a LOT when I lived there from '99 to '01. This was many years before CJWF signed on. Back then, FM 96 was a very lame Modern AC (yet they still positioned as "London's Best Rock"). Playlist was not that much different than Planet 96-3 at the time.

Picking up both 93.5 and 95.9 from London loudly and clearly at the house as we speak! I live in a place where normally CJWF is very receivable indoors, so this is a great surprise!

Hearing the Cult "Fire Woman" on FM96 as I type.

Cruise 102.1 from the Thumb now coming in loudly and clearly. Also could hear a scratchy WKCQ next door to WJLB.

Love the TOH jingle on Cruise 102.1!

Update: WUCX 90.1 from Bay City is also coming in super strongly. 92.5 from Toledo is also coming in decently.

Star 104 (103.7 FM) from Erie, PA is booming in this morning! So strongly it is creating adjacent channel interference to local WMUZ-FM!

The processing for Star 104 is really crunk! The station sounds good. Better than many large city CHR stations I've heard.

They are a client, I'll pass on the compliment.

97.9 CFPS Port Elgin ON - RDS decoded perfectly in WJLB null. I wasn't aware they'd switched from AC to Rock, so I thought I was getting WGRD at first. New catch!

Big 101.3 Grand Rapids
Banana 101.5 Tuscola/Flint taking out WRVF

Canadian stations are booming in yet again!

Hearing CBC Music on 100.5 FM. Sounds like Billy Talent is being played.

Cool FM 95.1 is coming in almost like a local signal.

Something was fighting WRIF this morning; couldn't stay in one place long enough to try and get the additional signal.

For me, it's a treat getting some of those Canadian stations over here. On those frequencies, its usually B-95 out if Flint, if anything on 103.7 I can pull in Toledo, and as mentioned, CJWF on 95.9. I caught a lot of great stuff on Canadian radio years back; none of them are around anymore. That's why FM 96 was such a treat. 89x, K106.3, 95.1/100.7 the Rock, all gone. I even remember getting 94.3 back when it was a rock station. No, I need more religious translators and country stations 🙄

I once picked up 91.1 CJRT in Macomb County on my little bedside clock radio when I was 10 years old. That was what sparked my interest in DX'ing, though I didn't really understand what it was then.
I didn't have as much luck Sunday night. 101.3 CKOT, 104.9 CHWC and 100.9 CBC Radio One Wingham were the only Canadians I received that I hadn't received the night before.

When there is a WX front passing thru, I can hear several NOAA VHF weather transmitters on several freqs. The other evening I heard Cleveland and Flint area signals.
