PEP National EAS Test Wednesday 8-11-21

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

PEP National EAS Test Wednesday 8-11-21

Post by WOHO » Tue Aug 10, 2021 8:25 am

Couple of questions on the NPT/EAS test at 2:20 Wednesday.
I assume WJR is still a PEP for the region? What are the LP1 & LP2 stations for the metro?
I also assume that all HD2 and HD3 stations are required to carry the test either immediately or at the first natural break (which could be 30 min out?)
Sirius XM on the first PEP NPT failed, all they had was duck farts, dead air for 15 seconds and the 3 closing duck farts.
Does Sirius XM have a 'special audio channel' just for FEMA use & and I assume SXM is required to carry the NPT even on the free unsubscribed radios junk advertising channel in addition to all 70 music channels?
OH, and I guess the alert will be going out on all cellphones- again, are unsubscribed required to receive/broadcast EAS test too?
May the ghost of the EBS be with you!

Status in NW Ohio: WRVF-FM carried the EBS tones, static for 30 seconds, 3 EOM tones. No message.
Cellphone alert did work via crap Verizon network.
Didn't hear message on SXM streaming.
WJR streaming online had nothing, absolutely nothing, so did WJR put it out over 760KHz and just didn't insert it into their stream?
So if they president is warning of the Soviet evasion, you will not know if you are streaming WJR?
PEP EAS FAIL.

Our group of stations had no issues over the air on on our streams, our IT department rode herd over it to ensure there were no issues. Nothing on my phone, Sprint/T Mobile, local cable company had it too.

LP1 is Local Primary relay station that all participating local stations must monitor for Emergency Alert Messages. LP2 is alternate. LP stations monitor multiple sources, IPAWS internet, PEP Primary Entry Point stations (mostly 50KW stations with a direct connection to DC), NOAA Weather Radio, and possibly an interface to County FEMA office. HD-1 etc are bonus channels on some HD FM stations.
