Does Anyone Have an R-390 Communications Receiver?

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Does Anyone Have an R-390 Communications Receiver?

Do any of you Amateurs and/or DXers have any experience with this receiver? I guess America's foremost DXer and Radio Historian, David Gleason, used to cart his from Cleveland up to Omena during the Summers about the time he worked at WCCW in the 1960s. It weighs something like 90 pounds. Solid State conversions weigh somewhat less.

That is sure a well known classic, never had one but Had a Hallicrafters SX101a that was a Massive unit and great performer but limited to the Amateur bands .It outperformed my NEW TS520 Kenwood in 1974.

I heard that US Servicemen stationed in Ethiopia used to listen to Tiger Baseball on WJR with this receiver and a modest antenna, some kind of fancy loop antenna, not sure of the details.

A full wave loop on 760 would need 1322.4 feet of wire.

K8JD, the US Gov't is good for a quarter mile of wire!
