Fixed antenna for CICO & CBET

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

...I mean the HD-7000R.... If the thing in the middle is...
The image is really very low resolution. I don't understand what "the middle" refers to. It looks to me like one or two elements are lengthened and there is a joint of some kind. I cannot offer any inference about what that joint is.

This topic seems to me to be extremely tangential to the discussion because neither CBET or CICO would need a low-VHF element, and the OP requested advice on antennas of limited size. So increasing the element size of the antenna recommended to add low-VHF would not be particularly useful for receiving CICO or CBET.
Unless, unless, that is not a joint, but a reactance component that makes that element function as a VHF High Element. Back in the 1960s, JFD had a series of VHF V Shaped Element Log Periodic antenna with elements that were capacitively coupled to function better on VHF High. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Pages 2 and 3 of service bulletin explains this.

RCA 751E

I never thought to ask her what the letter [E] stood for,
But I know for sure it wasn't EXCELLENT.

RCA 751R is the smaller size.

One thing about TV antennas, is the more it looks like older TV antennas, the better. The antenna and TV industry took advantage of the fact that almost all the largest market stations used UHF during the transition, and recommended the micro antennas to viewers as a selling point to people who didn't know any better.
Well, when DTV was in the development stages, their intentions included a band use realignment that would have had ALL television in the UHF spectrum.

Years later (yet still long before the DTV transition), they quietly reallocated channels 51-69 (IIRC), and substituted VHF channels to make up the shortfall.

I have been poking around a lot and found a hi-VHF/UHF antenna that I am going to try. It is made by Stellar, model 30-2440. It is just 43 inches long and I can deal with that.

Thanks again all.

Follow up with a report on the Stellar Labs Model #30-2440 Fringe antenna. Give an assessment of the build quality and the reception signal strengths.

I have noticed STELLAR LABS makes many TV antennas with very reasonable costs.

I will report back. Not putting the antenna up until it warms up a bit though. Probably March -April.
