The Strongest Skywaves In The Straits Area Of Northern Michigan

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

There were two high power (10-50 kW) stations in SSM, ON for many years, I even had heard one of them here in Detroit a few times at night, Listened to them when on Vacation in northern Lower MI. Now they are on FM. No longer heard below the bridge. Google earth now shows empty lots where the antenna towers were located.

There are two other allotments in SSM, ON, 870 kHz, and 1200 kHz.

I've never heard anything from Detroit at our place in the Tampa Bay area. On one or two rare occasions, I've heard CFRB.

The Chicago stations are strong down there.
WJR does well in the Orlando area at night. I hear the Tampa station weakly behind it and I see it's required to go radically South at night? Good thing!

I get WGN well, WBBM is noticeably weaker but being on a clean freq. they're listenable. WLS is good some nights, clobbered badly other nights. No AM1000 or WSCR on 670, EVER! The very best Northern 1-A from up North by far is WLW! Always strong and the freq. is always clean and quiet.

Great list, I was thinking Zoomer radio was directional at night but it may have been CFRB.
I was trying to find a strong Detroit station that I could hear in the FL Keys, but WJR had a competing signal from Tampa area and the other ones are all directional to the north. :(
CFRB is highly directional, protecting many stations.

I wonder how it was decided who would get their hands on the 50kW omnidirectional facility and the clear channel.

Works great for CFZM, but if it had been CFRB, CHUM or CFTR, I would be pleading "unfair".

I also wouldn't be surprised if CFRB would have liked 740 to reach their snowbirds audience in the winter.

I hate to think what WLIB's NIF is - especially considering the soil conductivity of NYC that ain't worth schist.
