DXing on Guam

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

DXing on Guam

Post by fuzzpower » Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:54 pm

I’m on Guam for a few days, and this morning spun the AM radio dial in the rental car. I found plenty of stations from other countries, with most sounding Japanese. I don’t have a guide on who operates on what frequency from Japan, The Philippines, etc so it’s hard to identify. There’s also the fact the car tunes in 10khz steps, when this part of the world including Guam is on 9khz. During the day, only KGUM on 567 (570), KUAM 630, and KTWG 801 (800) come in. No sign of 1350 or 1530.

I have my portable radio with me; I need to bust it out sometime before sunrise.

NHK has some very high powered MW frequencies across Japan.

Radio 1 frequencies:
567 Sapporo (100kw), 594 Tokyo (300kw), 612 Fukuoka (100kw), 666 Osaka (100kw), 729 Nagoya (50kw)
Tokyo and Osaka are slated to upgrade to 500kw this year and Nagoya to 300kw.

Radio 2 frequencies:
693 Tokyo (500kw), 747 Sapporo (500kw), 774 Akita (500kw), 828 Osaka (300kw), 873 Kumamoto (500kw), 909 Nagoya (10kw), 1017 Fukuoka (50kw)
Osaka and Fukuoka are slated to upgrade to 500kw this year.

I think there's a high power 1566 in South Korea. China and Taiwan have many high-power AMs
