Tower In Clarkston M-15 and Dixie Highway

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Tower In Clarkston M-15 and Dixie Highway

Post by CK-722 » Fri Dec 13, 2019 11:48 pm

There's a fairly new self supporting tower behind Bowman Chevrolet In Clarkston at M-15 and Dixie Highway. It is probably about 120 feet high. The only thing I can see on it is a Channel Master Quantum 1160 on a rotator at the top. It looks like a TV DXer's dream, or some kind of variable source head end. I'll see if it is registered.

It is registered.

Another source as requested with pictures of Channel Master antennas.

I have been in that area many times, know there is a tower at the fire station just up the hill from what you mentioned. The FRN registration shows it was there as early as 2016 . Will try google earth to see if that is the FD Comm antenna tower.

OK, it's the local cable TV Co, head end tower ! That's why all the
TV antennas, for local plrograming distribution and the big satellite ant on the ground for the other networks.
I guesss the Independance Township FD took down their VHF antennas when they got on the Oakland Co digital comm system. Maybe the only county wide digi radio system, in Michigan, not done by Motorola :D

It's not that good of a LOS (or probably Fresnel Zones) to a lot of stations. It's only circa 1000 feet AMSL. at the base.

The top of the tower at Exit 98 is LOS to just about anything for circa 50 miles around.
