Anyone have problems recently receiving WSM, last evening it was like they weren’t even on the air.

Skywave service is not perfectly reliable. On the best paths (and Central Tennessee to Southeast Michigan is a pretty good one), I guess it's about 95% of nights will have propagation. with fade outs and fade ins, of course.

I did hear there was a coronal mass ejection recently

I have a friend that is at KENI in Anchorage, and about 5 years ago KENI had shut down for Technical Maintenance one night and my friend claimed that he was able to get WSM for about 2 hours is that possible?

I did hear there was a coronal mass ejection recently, but I don't know if was related to your outage.

About 15 years ago, I had been watching TV with my in-laws. An ad for a credit card was using the Grand Ole Opry as a setting, and my mother-in-law (Kentucky born), turned to my father-in-law and said "remember the Grand Ole Opry?"

I told her she could still listen to it. She answered "You used to could" (love that!).

So, I set out to show her she could still get the G.O.O. from WSM, by turning on a radio, only to find Bogota, Colombia alone on 650!

Wow! that’s pretty cool, just curious if the DXer’s in Alaska have good catches with the longer hours of darkness in the Winter, just how the hell does that work, and what about stations on Critical Hour patterns.

using my F150 2006 Ford truck radio and Sangean ATS 405

Here in Fairbanks, 365 miles north of Anchorage in interior, my best catch is 1530 KFBK Sacramento..
1330 has boomed in mornings from Juneau some 600 miles away

local 820 makes it hard to get 810 KGO San Francisco
Surprised Seattle or Vancouver BC doesn't make it here with skywave

550/590/700/750/1080/1110 out of Anchorage area

620 Homer/680 Barrow/770 Valdez/790 Glennallen/890 Homer/920 Soldotna/1140 Soldotna

Can you get KBHR 580 K-Bear there since the "Upgrade"? :rollin

I swear I think they got Chris Stevens character name from Kris Eric Stevens. One was from the 906 Area Code, the other from the 907 Area Code. Both Frozen Tundra. Ever hear of Peter Kott and Bernard Rosenberg there in Alaska? They went to my HS a few years before me.

Funny coincidence, I mentioned KFQD on another thread this evening (wondering if it is the source of white noise in the after midnight hours affecting CFZM 740 Toronto).

Does KFQD use IBOC (AKA HD radio) at night?

WSM took a big lightening hit last week. Repairs underway.
