TT is right. The thrill of radio is the awesome ability to be 'on the air'. Streaming is krap.

I remember at young age assembling a crystal set and getting radio without any power!

Or

Hearing WHO for the first time from Iowa in the middle of the night!

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

The thrill is gone as “The Late Great B.B. King” sang in 1970. Those days of amazing DX’ing is never going to happen in today’s radio climate. AM is actually unlistenable and FM is to locally congested with translators in every empty space on the dial. And now FM is being plagued by interference from electrical and computer signals. Forget the good music station that’s even disappearing to 150 song playlist. The state of over the air radio is dying. It can be fixed but the big broadcasting companies won’t fix it and why? Because they are focusing on streaming because that’s where it will be at in this next decade.

I liked overnight radio when it wasn't "The Trucker Network" or other syndicated nonsense. WGN used to be live all night, I remember an episode of Milt Rosenberg when the news desk needed to break in due to a tornado..
"And now we need to pause to let the news department tells us about the tornados devouring Chicago." The news announcer is audibly pissed. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2018/1/17/ ... dead-at-92

Today, I listen to KEXP Live from Seattle.

Accuradio is good sometimes, but it went from playing too much commercial stuff to too much obscure. People cringe over Pandora, but I enjoy it as well.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

MCRF — what channels do you listen to on AccuRadio? They haven’t sounded too different...then again I’m mostly listening to the “adult rock” and alt channels they have...

take this job and shove it

Radio Caroline Flashback plays oldies but since it is a British station they play a lot of music I have never heard before; http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/#home.html
WOMR is a volunteer DJ station on Cape Cod and play a crazy variety of music; https://womr.org/
WQXR https://www.wqxr.org/ and BBC Radio 3 are probably the best classical stations in the world; https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_radio_three
WNMC in Traverse City plays a great variety of all kinds of music https://www.wnmc.org/index.html
BBC World Service is of course a great news source; https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live: ... ld_service
WSM plays real old country after midnight and is one of my favourites; https://wsmradio.com/

If it isn't broadcast over the air, it isn't radio.
Depends. If you're listening on a mobile device, it's broadcast through the air from the cell tower to your gadget.

I get your point though. There is a certain satisfaction with good old fashioned terrestrial radio. I told my wife I want a shortwave radio for Christmas, preferrably one with SSB for listening to Hams. It's different when you can DX originating signals on your own receiver with no assistance from the internet. Sure, it's nice to have the convenience of streaming, but DX'ing is more of a hobby, and it's just fun!

Shortwave is the ORIGINAL satellite radio.

Have you asked your wife for any specific brand or model?

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.
