Yep, GM is so happy, they save 25cents a radio again. Why not install a Motorola AM CQUAM chip instead- no royalties to pay, and you can hear WION and CFCO in stereo?

The article describes HD radio as "rudimentary." Seems about right. :)

Man, for a second there, I thought it might actually go somewhere.

Tired of overplayed crap on CSX? Tune in to 94.7-2!

Tired of butt rock on Riff? Tune into 101.1-2!

Tired of 80s? Tune into 104.3-2!

Tired of bro country? Tune into 99.5-2!

It could have been great and really given FM radio a shot in the arm. Those formats you couldn't get on FM could be heard on HD radio. Fizzled out like a fart. Bummer.

Any serious effort & investment in the HD side channels simply cannibalizes the parent station.

The HD-only side channels are best used for rebroadcasting AM band sister stations, feeding FM analog translators, or broadcasting programming intended for niche audiences.

The technology can also be used for data transmission from what I understand.

I've disabled both AM & FM HD in my car. WWJ AM 950 no longer broadcasts in HD. FM HD in many cases sounds no better than FM analog, and in some cases sounds crappier than FM analog. Nothing on any of the HD-only channels locally is of interest to me.

you have no idea how much money 25 cents is , these people buy components to the hundredth of a cent in the elctrical portion of the vehicle

25 cents for something that isn't a big, wide customer satisfier is better spend elsewhere, or not at all

HD in AM is only a 12k bitrate. Sound like trash, unless you know what you are doing.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
